The Chinese Economic Association UK\/Europe and Xiamen University held a two-day<\/p>\n\n\n\n
workshop on artificial intelligence and the digital economy, together with a<\/p>\n\n\n\n
forum on economics education in China, at Xiamen University on 27 and 28 December<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The workshop was organised jointly by Xiamen University's Gregory and Paula Chow<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Institute for Studies in Economics, its Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Economics and its School of Economics, the association, and the digital economy<\/p>\n\n\n\n
committee of the China Development Strategy Research Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fourteen invited speakers gave keynote reports over the two days, on artificial<\/p>\n\n\n\n
intelligence governance, digital economic transformation, financial technology<\/p>\n\n\n\n
innovation and new forms of financial risk control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A roundtable on 28 December brought the visiting specialists together with<\/p>\n\n\n\n
teaching staff from Xiamen University's economics departments to discuss how<\/p>\n\n\n\n
economics education in China should develop, how talent is trained and how<\/p>\n\n\n\n
disciplines should intersect as teaching becomes more digital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The workshop was hosted by Xiamen University's Macroeconomic Research Centre, a<\/p>\n\n\n\n
key research base of the Ministry of Education, and by the Xiamen University and<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chinese Academy of Sciences Basic Science Centre for Econometric Modelling and<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Economic Policy Research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opening session on the morning of 27 December was chaired by Li Shumin, vice<\/p>\n\n\n\n
chairman of the China Development Strategy Research Society and executive<\/p>\n\n\n\n
director of its digital economy committee. Addresses were given by Hong Yongmiao<\/p>\n\n\n\n
of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of Xiamen<\/p>\n\n\n\n
University's Chow institute, Shi Yukun, chair of the association, and Zhou<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yinggang, dean of Xiamen University's School of Economics and of the Wang Yanan<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shi Yukun set out the association's history, its academic standing and its<\/p>\n\n\n\n
exchange and cooperation work, and underlined its role in improving public<\/p>\n\n\n\n
understanding of the Chinese economy and in supporting research on China's<\/p>\n\n\n\n
high-quality development. He said the decision to run the research workshop<\/p>\n\n\n\n
alongside the education forum was intended to use Sino-European academic exchange<\/p>\n\n\n\n
as a route to developing younger scholars. Zhou Yinggang recalled that Xiamen<\/p>\n\n\n\n
University had co-hosted the association's annual conference in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
